Toplum yaşamında bir bireyin diğer bireylerle eşit olarak yer alma fırsatının kısıtlandığı bir durum olarak ortaya çıkan engellilik olgusu, insanlık tarihi boyunca var olmuştur. Bu durum günümüz modern toplumlarında ise daha fazla görülmektedir. Zihinsel, doğuştan ya da herhangi bir hastalıktan sonra engellilik durumu bireylerin tek başlarına hayatlarını idame ettirmelerine engel olmaktadır. Engelli bireyler toplum tarafından dışlandıklarını, eşit ve adaletli bir yaşam sürdüremediklerini, Ekonomik, sosyal ve psikolojik sorunlarla ilgilenmeleri gerektiğini iddia ederler. Bu durum engelli bireylerin toplumdan soyutlanmasına, kendisini toplumun bir üyesi olarak görmemesine neden olmaktadır. Engelli bireylere yönelik ayrımcılığın önlenmesinde bireyin engel durumunun farkına varılıp, görerek, kabul edilerek eşit ve adaletli bir şekilde yaşantılarını sürdürmeleri sağlanmalıdır. Ayrıca onlara sunulacak formel ya da enformel destek ve hizmetlerin yürütülmesi engelli bireylerin topluma entegre olmalarına katkı sağlayabilir.

Tüm insanlığın ortak sorunu olarak değerlendirilmesi gereken engellilerin yaşadığı sorunlara yönelik kuramsal araştırmalar, yeterli bir düzeye ulaşamamış ve sınırlı kalmıştır. Bu çalışma, sosyal dışlanmaya maruz kalan engelli çocukların sorununu gündeme getiren güncel bir çalışmadır. Araştırma ile engelli çocukların toplumsal düzeyde birçok zorluklar ve sorunlarla karşılaştıkları; bu sorunların engelli çocukları mağdur ederek olumsuz bir şekilde etkilediği gösterilmektedir. Engelli çocukların yaşadığı sorunların giderilmesi, eşit haklara sahip bir toplumda yer almalarına yönelik çalışmalar yapılmakta ise de yeterli olmamaktadır.  Engellilerin kendilerini toplumla bütünleşmiş hissedebilecekleri, özgüvenleri yüksek ve değerli hissedebilecekleri bir toplumda yaşamaları için bu alanda birçok adım atılması ve bu alanda çalışmalar yapılması gerekmektedir.

The phenomenon of disability, which appears as a situation in which an individual's opportunity to participate in social life is restricted on an equal basis with other individuals, has existed throughout the history of humanity. This situation is more common in today's modern societies. Disabilities that occur after mental, congenital, or any disease prevent individuals from sustaining their lives on their own. Disabled individuals state that they are excluded by society, that they cannot lead an equal and fair life, and that they have to cope with psycho-social and economic problems. This situation causes people with disabilities to be isolated from society and not to see themselves as members of society. To prevent discrimination against people with disabilities, it is necessary to realize the disability status of the individual, to see and accept them, and to continue their lives in an equal and fair way. Furthermore, providing them with formal or informal support and services can help them integrate into society. Theoretical research on the problems experienced by the disabled, which should be considered a common problem of all humanity, could not reach a sufficient level and remained limited. The issues of children with impairments who are subject to social isolation are raised in this study, which is recent research. With research, it has been determined that children with disabilities face many difficulties and problems at the social level; it has been shown that these problems negatively affect children with disabilities by victimizing them. Although efforts are being made to eliminate the problems experienced by children with disabilities and to ensure their participation in a society with equal rights, This is insufficient. For disabled people to live in a society that is integrated with society, has high self-confidence, and can feel valued, many steps should be taken and studies should be carried out in this field.
