İnsanı diğer varlıklardan ayıran en önemli özelliği akıl (bilinç) sahibi ve seçme özgürlüğüne sahip olmasıdır. İnsanlık tarihi boyunca insanın bu özelliği, özgürlüğü ve özgürlüğün sınırları sorgulana gelmiştir. Bu probleme çok farklı çözümler aranmıştır. Genellikle insan özgürlüğüne ilişkin iki farklı yaklaşım mevcuttur. Bunlardan birincisi filozofların getirmiş oldukları yaklaşım, diğeri ise dinlerin getirmiş oldukları yaklaşım tarzıdır. Tarih boyunca filozoflar, kevnî ve teşriî bazı yasalara tâbi olmak zorunda olan insanın özgürlüğünün ne anlama geldiğini ve bunun mümkün olup olmadığını tartışmıştır. İslam düşünce tarihinde de özellikle Kelamcıları en çok meşgul eden konu bu olmuştur. Fakat biz çalışmada sadece Kur’ân’ın insan profilini nasıl tasavvur ettiğine, ona ilişkin biçtiği rol ve sorumluluk nitelikleri yönüyle spesifik açıdan değerlendirmek istiyoruz. Tabiatıyla Kur’ân, yaratılan her varlığın, kendisine has bir kaderi bulunduğunu belirtir. İnsanın kaderi de iyilik ya da kötülük yapabilecek tarzda yaratılmış olmasıdır. İnsanın gayesi Allâh tarafından tespit edilmiş olmasına rağmen, bu hedefin gerçekleştirilmesini Allâh insana bırakmıştır. Bu hususta insan serbesttir. Kur’ân’a göre insan Allâh tarafından yaratılmış fakat O’nun tarafından kurulmamıştır. Kısaca insan bilinçli, sorumlu ve özgür bir varlık olup, Allâh’ın yeryüzündeki halifesidir. Sonuç itibariyle biz bu çalışmada insanı diğer varlıklardan ayıran, onu Mükerrem ve önemli kılan vasıflarını ve Kur’ân’ın insana yüklediği sorumluluk misyonunu Kur’ân-ı merkeze alarak değerlendirmeğe çalışacağız.

The most distinctive feature that sets the human being apart from other creatures is their possession of reason (consciousness) and their freedom to choose. Throughout human history, this faculty of freedom and the boundaries of that freedom have been subjects of deep inquiry. Various solutions have been proposed to address this issue. Generally, there are two main approaches to human freedom: one offered by philosophers, and the other by religious traditions. Philosophers have long debated what human freedom means and whether it is possible, considering that human being is subject to both natural (cosmic) and moral (legal or divine) laws. In Islamic intellectual history, this topic has especially preoccupied theologians (mutakallimūn). In this study, however, our aim is to focus specifically on how the Qur’an envisions the human being — in terms of the roles and responsibilities it attributes to them. The Qur’an clearly states that every created being has a unique destiny. In the case of the human being, this destiny involves the capacity for both good and evil. While the ultimate purpose of human life is defined by Allâh, the fulfillment of this goal is left to human choice. In this regard, humans are free agents. According to the Qur’an, the human being is created by Allâh, but not controlled like an automaton. In short, the Qur’an portrays the human as conscious, responsible, and free being who serves as caliph of Allâh on earth.

In conclusion, this study will evaluate the distinguishing features that elevate the human being above other creatures, and examine the mission of responsibility that the Qur’an assigns to humanity with the Qur’an as the central reference point.
